Chloe’s Top 3 Marketing Tools to Improve your eCommerce sales in 2023 (episode 419)

We’re kicking off the New Year with something we’ve never done before – so do let me know what you think of this new format.

There are 3 new pieces of eCommerce Marketing tech I’ve been super impressed with over the last few months, and which help with the key marketing areas you should be improving to ride what’s going to be a rocky year.

So I thought I’d do an episode where we shine a light on each of them so you can work out if you should be bringing them into your marketing mix…

I’ve got a team member from each joining me to tell us why it’s great tech, how it can help you, who it works best for, what it could do for you, and (of course) how much it costs.

A common thread through all 3 is that they can help you grow sales by improving key marketing channels, AND saving you time.

Molly Woolnough-Rai from Penny Black

Penny Black allows brands to add personalized inserts to their packages, making the unboxing experience a high-performing marketing channel.

It solves three key problems:

  • The potentially boring moment when the customer receives the items by improving the experience
  • The challenge of providing digital personalization in the unboxing moment by allowing brands to personalize that experience
  • The difficult task of delighting the customer during unboxing by giving brands the chance to engage with the customer

Penny Black works best for brands that:

  • Are focused on the customer experience and improving their strategies
  • Have high repeat order rates
  • Have a specific marketing stack
  • Process 10,000 monthly orders and above

With Penny Black, you can expect to get:

  • The opportunity to push a transactional message, such as discounts, upsells, and repeat orders
  • A chance to encourage non-transactional activities, such as leaving reviews and signing up to the brand’s community

Molly mentions that phygital experiences – a blend of physical and digital – are going to become more important in the near future. As brands look for more opportunities to delight their customers along the buying journey, phygital experiences are the way to.

Rosie Bailey from Nibble

Nibble is an AI chatbot that lets brands negotiate with customers 1-to-1, for a win-win deal.

It’s designed to address the problem of overstock, by giving the brand the opportunity to reinforce its brand values to the customer and encouraging the purchase before the customer looks for voucher codes and other online deals, through a 1-to-1 conversation.

Nibble works best for brands that:

  • Are in the discretionary arena, such as items or purchases your customer really wants but doesn’t necessarily need

Examples of discretionary purchases are:

  • Premium gin or premium coffee
  • Luxury watches
  • Ride-on toy cars
  • Fishing equipment

With Nibble, you can expect to get up to 50% improvement in conversion. Rosie expects the technology to catch on and go viral in the coming months, and says they’re looking forward to working with brands and people who need real-life negotiation tips.

For brands on Shopify, you can download the Nibble app and get started right away. There’s also a Nibble plugin for Magento and WooCommerce users, and a KPI is available for all other stores. Everyone can opt for a free trial to begin with, and those who choose to sign up will be charged a minimal monthly fee and commission.
