178: Growing a B2B Subscription eCommerce business to 7-figures in 1 year – Jonathan from Penji

October 1, 2018 By Chloë Thomas Leave a Comment

In this episode we’re taking a dive into a different type of subscription eCommerce business, it’s a bit like SaaS (software as a service), and it’s selling a service rather than a physical product.

But there is a subscription, and it is bought online… so it counts as eCommerce!

Our special guest is … Johnathan Grzybowski of Penji.com. Penji is an online graphic design service via which you can get unlimited graphic design projects done for a flat monthly fee. The business launched in Oct 2017 and is already a 7-figure business.

154: Christine Nicholson explains why and how she closed eCommerce subscription business Divine Legs

April 16, 2018 By Chloë Thomas Leave a Comment

Occasionally I have a guest back on the show to update us on how things are going – today we have a repeat guest.

Christine Nicholson of Divine Legs (Tights subscription business) was my guest back in episode 103. Back then the business was 9 months old, and Christine took us through how she’d launched and achieved 100 orders in the first 100 days.

In November 2017 Divine Legs reached 15 months old, and despite continuing to grow Christine made the decision to shut it down.

Never an easy choice to make.

Not least because despite 100s of eCommerce business owners making the same decision every day – we don’t hear as much about it, as we do about the starting or the growing. So I’m super-pleased to have Christine on today to take us through why, and how she made the decision to exit, and her choice of exit, and how she went about closing it down.

137: Subscription eCommerce – Jon Butt runs a 7-figure eCommerce business, and launched a seperate subscription site in 2017

January 8, 2018 By Chloë Thomas Leave a Comment

Jon Butt was last on the show in episode 73, when he came on to talk about his multi-million pound B2B eCommerce business Fire Protection Online. The business Jon’s here to talk about today couldn’t be more different. It’s B2C, a much lower AOV, it’s a food product, and it’s a subscription business!

In 2017 Jon and his son Harvey launched Blue Coffee Box, a ground coffee discovery box. As we record they’re just starting month 4, and are on the cusp of their 100th subscriber.

I’m really pleased to have a “traditional ecommerce” veteran on to discuss why subscription. I know a lot of you out there are thinking of adding it into the mix – so I just had to include it in this January Growth Series.
