About the business

From Employee to Entrepreneur

Stephen has always been interested in digital marketing. He started off working for a company that taught him the ins and outs of how the industry works, particularly in getting familiar with the systems and how to convert landing pages and eCommerce stores. His professional experience inspired him to embark on his first personal eCommerce venture with eBay, which led him to research niche products such as wrought iron cars and mini quad bikes. Stephen spent six months building the business plan, doing research, and finding the right keywords to use for SEO. The success of the business has escalated very quickly due to Stephen’s prior background in digital marketing and web design.

Listen for the benefits of getting into eCommerce with a background in digital marketing.

Success Pointers

It isn’t just a happy accident that Micro Bikes UK has experienced so much success so quickly. Stephen constantly works to increase sales through methods such as upselling, retaining repeat customers, and remarketing list research advertising. Though Micro Bikes UK stands amongst a field of competitors who have been in the business for years and have built up teams of employees, Stephen’s business thrives because he truly understands how to run a business and how to effectively market that business to customers who can’t help but come back for more. His products come at a high price, but the way he positions them as a worthwhile investment successfully converts customers on a regular basis.

The Team

Though Micro Bikes UK is primarily run by Stephen, he has hired two virtual assistants to answer phone calls, help out with customer service, and upload new products to the online store. Stephen has managed to automate most of the necessary tasks on the site, saving him time and money to focus on marketing and improving the business.

Marketing Tidbits

Marketing is Stephen’s strong suit. He finds most of his revenue through Google Shopping, which is processed through Google Merchant Center. Using Google Shopping campaign advertisement, Stephen does remarketing list research advertising to find and connect with people who he has previously reached. This is done by taking an audience of people who have already interacted with his website and using it in the search results to be able to stick his ads in front of that more targeted audience. In addition to reaching the right crowd, the cost of these ads is much cheaper because you’ll have a bigger quality score, since you’re targeting people who have already been to your site. When Stephen first launched Micro Bikes UK, he spent a bit more on marketing in order to get his initial customers to his store. Since then, he has analyzed his customer base through Google Analytics and has found success focusing on repeat customers.

Advice on Successful Dropshipping

The most important key to a successful dropshipping business is to find a reliable supplier. Stephen has had to cycle through many different suppliers in order to find the ones that consistently follow through on time and are easy to communicate with. Remember, your customers see you as your supplier. The second tip Stephen has for dropshippers is to find products that you can mark up well and make a decent profit on. You don’t want to have to focus all your energy on getting crazy high numbers if you don’t have to.
