031: Experts View 1: The Most Interesting Thing in eCommerce in 2015

January 4, 2016 By Chloë Thomas 3 Comments

Over Christmas we brought you two Highlights of 2015 podcasts (one on New Customer Acquisition and Repeat Customers, the other on Content Marketing and Social Media), they were packed with the best bits from our 2015 podcast interviews.

Now we’re in 2016 I thought it might be worth asking some more experts in the industry for their advice on how to be successful into 2016.

So we have 3 “Experts View” shows coming up for you, in each I’ll be bringing you the opinions of some of the top people in eCommerce (plus my thoughts as well).

For this first show I asked a number of experts what they believe was the most interesting thing we saw in 2015.

It’s important to look back at 2015 and identify the breakthrough moments before we can look at what we should do in 2016.

Really great episode. Your podcast really gets better and better. This one was a gem. I spent two hours introducing more delivery methodes in my webshop. In the Netherlands almost everyone including all my competitors offer next delivery and some offer pick up at warehouse/shop. Thats it. I now introduced a economy service just below my competitors prices with a longer delivery window, offering me the luxury of planning and batching order picking. I of course also offer “Standard” next day delivery as everyone else but now at a slightly higher rate. A no neighbor option, a evening only option both at a premium and same day delivery which is the most expensive but fasted option. My customers love it and funny thing people often choose to pay for fast service while other customers respond well who can wait. Bottom line: 2 hours of work on average €10-€15 more revenue without increased cost per day. Looks small but adds up about €4500 or about £3000 a year! That’s 2 hours well spent. And a group of customers who wait just became more loyal because we offered something in return to them: a low shipping rate. Thank you so ,so much Chloë.

My pleasure Gerjo – isn’t it great when you find something that you can do once, and it just keeps paying back!
