Starting Out in eCommerce

Sara was in the world of software before she came across Brightpearl. Being a strong consumer on the eCommerce side and having friends with small eCommerce businesses, she wondered if it would be the right space for her.

After more than four years in the industry, Sara says she’s still loving the work that she does.

Brightpearl’s Lightning 50

Lightning 50 is Brightpearl’s list of top eCommerce brands both in the US and the UK, ranked according to revenue growth in the last twelve months. Winners from last year include brands like Holland & Cooper, Candy Kittens, and Biscuiteers.

Last year’s winners from the UK earned more than 340,000,000 and the average growth for online retailers was at 518%.

Lessons From These Top Brands

When an eCommerce brand makes less than ten million, Sara says it’s all about the hustle: making sure your products are selling and that your marketing is performing.

However, when your sales are ranging from 15 million to 50 million, then the business becomes more about the process. Having the right tools to support what you’re doing is what’s going to help you scale, and this is evident in the brands that are part of the Lightning 50 list.

Other Key Takeaways

Sara says it’s about paying attention to where the opportunities lie within your business, and tools play a big part in this.

You need to make sure that your systems are aligned and integrated to make your work easier. So if there’s any way you can automate your processes, do it. What you’ll see with these Lightning 50 brands is that the tools they use fueled their success and gave them that 500% increase within a year.

Sustainable Brands

In the Lightning 50 list, sustainable brands are well-represented.

Brands like Jericho Coffee Traders, Naturewell, and Candy Kittens show that you can be successful and still have the opportunity to practice sustainability.
